In 1869, the Brooklyn School was built to serve as both a schoolhouse and Union church. When the town's name changed in 1873, the school became known as the Forney School. In 1889, the Board of Trustees raised $2,500 to construct a new five-room, two-story school on the site where the District's administration building stands today. On December 6, 1899, the community voted to establish Forney Independent School District, creating a strong foundation for public education that continues more than 125 years later. Today, Forney ISD serves more than 20,000 students across 26 campuses, including 12 elementary schools, 4 intermediate schools, 4 middle schools, 2 high schools, a learning academy, and Opportunity Central, the District's innovative college and career center. Located in one of the nation's fastest-growing counties, Forney ISD continues to build on its legacy by inspiring learners through innovative education while preparing students for the future.
